What exactly is the Mail Filter product?

An Anti-Spam and an Anti-Virus Filter for your existing mail server. You can learn more under Mail Filter.

Do I need extra Hardware or Software?

No! Only an existing mail server.

How do the E-Mails reach the Mail Filter?

You change the DNS MX-Record of your mail domain, so that this points to our Mail Filter. Subsequently, the Mail Filter delivers the E-Mails to your mail server.

What happens with Spam or Virus E-Mails?

This you can decide yourself – you can choose from the following options:

Spam E-Mails tagged (declared as Spam) and afterwards filtered by your mail client or server

Advantage: You have full control over your E-Mails.
Disadvantage: All Spam E-Mails will continue to be delivered to your mail server.

Spam E-Mails deleted immediately

Advantage: Loading on your mail server will be less and you do not need local filter rules.
Disadvantage: Once deleted, the E-Mails can not be recovered.

Spam E-Mails are forwarded to a special quarantine E-Mail account within your mail domain

Advantage: E-mails not delivered immediately to the user can be delivered afterwards at any time.
Disadvantage: Your mail server needs additional resources.

Virus E-Mails deleted immediately (with sender notification, if address not falsified)

Advantage: Infected E-Mails are not delivered to your mail server.
Disadvantage: Once deleted, the E-Mails can not be recovered.

Virus E-Mails are forwarded to a special quarantine E-Mail account within your mail domain

Advantage: E-mails not delivered immediately to the user can be delivered afterwards at any time.
Disadvantage: Your mail server needs additional resources.

Do I have to make changes to my mail server?

No! The only change you must make, is to alter your existing DNS MX-Records.

Everything sounds wonderful and good, but unfortunately I do not have a mail server - what can I do?

What happens when my mail server is temporally unreachable – are all E-Mails lost?

No! As an additional benefit, Mail Filter collects your E-Mails and stores these locally for 5 days. Periodically Mail Filter tries to contact your mail server, and to deliver the accumulated E-Mails.
